Freedom of not giving a crap.

An old marvel presents wolvie cover. You can see my timidly trying to add bit of red color in the shadows. Yeah, i knew the red wouldn't print when they scanned the art in black and white.

I just did it at that time,  because fully painting a color cover, still intimated me.

I wouldn't tackle painting until some years later when i started the drawing Maxx, and i surrendered to a freedom Simon Bizley encouraged in me.

Hi Sam,

I had the privilege of meeting you right around this time in your career when you visited Colorado. You shared little tidbits like this that never make it on the finished page and that plus your personal style influenced me a lot (and continues to inspire). Thank you for sharing this piece and your work.

Sam, a Maxx painting by you is being auctioned at ha.com but I've never seen it before on a cover or card set. Was this a commission? Is it a fake by someone else? I'm leaning towards it being yours. The signature looks legit.

That's from the 1996 MAXX trading subset. Card #E1. Not sure if that paintings legit though
